Women, Do They Have the Stomach for Politics?

It may be a contentious question to pose but recent events within the political spectrum have made it pertinent to consider. The raft of female politicians on the conservative side jumping ship and retiring, has me asking whether women have the stomach for politics in this country? It is a dirty and, basically, ego driven business and one wonders if women really want to be a part of it, in its current state. Political correctness is on the rise, I know, and there is a concerted push to transform the business of politics, but whether that is truly possible is another question in itself.

Conservatives Not Representational in Gender Terms in Australia in the 21C

The Liberals don’t have mandatory quotas for women and, thus, have a woeful representational balance in parliament at the federal level. Perhaps, the conservatives feel that women belong in the home raising children and nurturing the family (all good things for the right woman, by the way)? Their spokesmen, always, talk about it being a merit driven system, which must, by the results, reflect badly on female members of their party. With members like Julia Banks and Kelly O’Dwyer the latest to leave the potentially sinking ship, things do not look rosy for the LNP and their ability to represent a modern Australia in the 21C. Julie Bishop is predicted to exit politics, as well.

Sharp Teeth & Nasty Inclinations are an Advantage in Politics

Women, do they have the stomach and the teeth for politics, as it is? The back biting and the macho behaviour in old world politicking are not everyone’s cup of tea. Politics is a, sometimes, savage business and you need sharp teeth to thrive within its gamut. Peruse this site for some dental prowess in Melbourne, if required. Personally, I could not abide the political realm, either. Women make up 50.7% of the population of this nation and too many women feel let down by the conservative side of politics in the way that they play the political game. Most pundits predict a landslide win to Bill Shorten in the coming election in 2019.

Women will have to transform the political system and culture, if they are to make headway and reflect the gender balance, representationally, in this country. Young girls want to grow up knowing that they can run the country and play AFL football in the 21C.

What They Eat in the White House

We have all seen movies portraying the President in the White House and gather that culinary choice is no big challenge for the leader of the free world at home. Currently, the oval office is filled by the man with a large opinion of himself. Understatement is a foreign territory for Donald Trump. So, what does the most self-promoting US president in history consume in the way of victuals? Apparently, Trump is no big fan of breakfast, but if he does partake, it is usually bacon and eggs. He likes his eggs cooked over well and his bacon medium. What they eat in the White House may well reflect upon the shrinking divide between the elite and the average man or woman in the street.

President Trump No Fan of Breakfast or Lunch

President Trump is not a great lunch man, either. He, often, works for large stretches of time unhindered by the need to refuel with a repast. He does favour the meat loaf sandwich, according to one report coming out of the White House. Trump, as businessman and, now, as a world leading politician, prefers to stay on the job until the sun goes down. Dinner is his favourite meal of the day.

Leading a Fast Food Nation

Unsurprisingly, Trump is a big fan of fast food. He, often, asks the White House kitchen to recreate his favourite Maccas and Burger King dishes (if I can use that word to describe their culinary offerings). President Trump appreciates the cleanliness within the fast food establishments and feels safer eating their fare than anything else. See here for yourself a range of spotlessly brilliant kitchen designs. I imagine the White House kitchen staff, the chefs and cooks, would scratch their heads in wonder at the choices that Trump, often, makes in regard to his dining predilections.

Fast Refuels are His Trump

President Trump is a beef steak guy, preferring his meat very well done on the plate. He chooses ketchup as his accompaniment of choice. I think we are getting the picture of the kind of chap this president really is. Simple tastes for a man who perceives the world in simple terms. Many of his political supporters would say that this is no bad thing, either. They, likely, share many of his tastes and views. Trump, also, likes to snack on crisps and drinks Diet Coke. All of these foods are about a quick hit from sugars, salt, protein and carbs. A man on the go, stopping briefly for a quick refill, before he carries on.

Homeland Security: Does It Parallel Home Security?

There is no denying that political representatives and governments exploit voter fear of terrorism to their own advantage. In America the 9/11 attacks allowed governments and security agencies to dispense with individual privacy laws and monitor their citizens and non-citizens at home and abroad. Homeland security: does it parallel home security? It sure does, when the USA goes on terror alert, sure enough, householders buy more alarms and security systems for their homes. When there is a mass shooting in the US, many more people go out and buy guns; ostensibly to protect themselves. America has a culture of fear.

The mass media beams its sensationalist and highly repetitive news stories into the homes and workplaces of every American. TVs and computer screens flash with graphic images of death and disaster. Media commentators, exhaustively, wring every last emotion charged sound byte out of every bad news story. Moms and dads watch in worried states, eying their vulnerable children from across the room. Homeland security is the primal urge to defend family and home; so lock up your sons and daughters. Home security is paramount in the hearts and minds of most middle class Americans. They want double locks on the doors and big guns in their hands.

Homeland Security: Does It Parallel Home Security?

America, seems to have been in a heightened state of paranoia since its inception. First, it was the English who needed to be overthrown in revolution. Next, it was those savage Indians scalping innocent pioneering families out west. Then, those black runaway slaves terrorising poor white southern families. The media fanned the flames of these stories at the time, in its overblown manner; and continued to dredge up examples of ongoing threatening behaviour down through the generations. Think of America and you think of conflicts, wars and assassinations. Gangsters wielding machine guns through the time of prohibition. Presidents, from Lincoln to Kennedy, being shot down dead.

America has prided itself on creating an identity full of danger and opportunity. Organised crime running the land, with Mafiosi dons strutting the stage like Shakespearian kings. Scourges of drug pushers and addicts corrupting their nation’s youth. More recent villains, like Al Qaida and ISIS, have filled a role that has always been necessary to the American psyche. The famous fourth amendment of the US Constitution and the right to bear arms in the defence of your home or person; only rings true because of that deeply embedded fear and paranoia. What is the point of being the most powerful nation on the earth if you always feel scared?

Corporate vs Political: Who Has The Most Power?

In evaluating the question, corporate vs political: who has the most power? I would point to the fact that for the individual working for a corporate entity, it is his, or her, corporate bosses that control far more of that individual’s life. The corporation becomes the tribe that the individual belongs to and tribal affiliations are far stronger than political persuasions; which only flair up every four or five years. Political power is the more overt form of power; it is widely discussed in the media, and those who choose to be part of the political process vote for their representatives at election time. Corporate power is assumed and far more covert in its influence and control over the individual who works for a particular corporation.

In the American political sphere, at this time, we see Donald Trump, a successful, high profile, corporate CEO appearing to win over the hearts and minds of American conservative voters. Is this a transmutation, or consolidation, of corporate power from the private sector to the public sector? Is corporate America flexing its muscles in the political realm in a highly overt way, after years of lobbying through the normal political channels? At the community level corporations exert power through campaign donations to elected representatives, through their market share, their influence over their employees and stock holders, and through paid lobbyists. Corporate influence is very persuasive throughout the US political system, and in most other western democratic forms of government. Corporate websites do not reflect this; they are smokescreens of demure behaviour in the digital realm.

Corporate vs Political: Who Has The Most Power?

In these capitalist, free enterprise, systems the individual is compelled to seek gainful employment to feed himself, or herself, and any family they may produce. Working for the man, which may in this day and age be a corporate entity, is first and foremost the most important allegiance owed. Ideas about state and country, except in times of national war, are secondary to the loyalty and fealty directly owed to their employer. Political power is overrated in most western democracies in terms of its influence over its constituents. Presidents and Congressmen are figureheads, when the real power handlers are the bosses and corporate leaders making the decisions that daily affect the lives of their workers, customers and stock holders.

The democratic system is an ideal that rarely delivers on its overblown promises and windbag filled media coverage. In all likelihood, if Donald Trump is elected President of the United States, he will have demonstrably less power than before he entered the race for the White House.

Australia’s Economic Business Growth

The Australian Mining Boom

There is no doubt that Australia’s economy has been slowing significantly since the mining boom that ended in 2011. During this economic peak, which represents one of the largest shocks to the national economy, the currency reached above parity (1.10) for the first time in history, terms of trade reached a memorable all time high of 118.5 and the mining industry itself comprised of around 8% of GDP. This had a dramatic affect on all Australians on a retail level. By 2013, real GDP per capita had amplified; household disposable income increased by 13% and real wages grew around 6%. The economic outlook and future were looking positive and Australian living standards were predicted to have increased significantly as a result. However like all economic fluctuations and changes in the business cycle, they are temporary. Thus when the mining boom ended in 2011 due to slowdown in Chinese demand for Australian commodities, this had and continues to have an immense affect on Australia’s economy and utility levels.

The aftermath of the commodity boom

Once the mining boom ended, due to the significant appreciation of the Australian Dollar, the Reserve Bank of Australia was attempting to intervene, utilizing monetary system methods and instruments to try and bring the Australian dollar down. As a result of the stubbornly high dollar, tourism and hospitality industries were suffering. Unemployment was increasing while citizens were still struggling to adapt to a slower economy. The Reserve Bank further adopted a highly expansionary monetary policy stance, dropping the cash rate to the lowest it has been for more than half a century at around 2.5%

The current economic situation in Australia

Since then, four years later, the Australian economy has started to gather momentum. With both consumer and business confidence increasing, the AUD falling to around 75 cents and the cash rates further dropping 50 basis points to 2%. Businesses are starting to attract international markets and gaining a competitive edge, allowing for increased revenue and profit ability, a rise in the derived demand of labour (unemployment at 6%,) and a slow revival from an economic contraction.

Australian housing bubble crisis

Although the restoration of the Australian economy was economically and socially difficult, it was a critical step to ensuring that Australian living standards didn’t plunge any further. This is largely due to the concerning housing price trends that have led to have additional negative impact and apprehension to Australian living standards. The property prices were a direct result of the momentous immigration to Australia, specifically Chinese immigration. Thus the pick up in employment and economic stimulation give Australian citizens hope that they can to some extent, resemble the persistent high property prices.

Indeed, if readers in America are planning to go away for the Christmas break, Australia might be a good destination for you. Whether it’s a cheap getaway to the Gold Coast, paired with low airport transfers Gold Coast and luxurious accommodation, Australia’s iconic beaches and our friendly relaxed culture promises to be a great experience and vacation. Accompanied by your recent Beige book publication, a trip to Australia indicates as if it will only become increasingly affordable.

Australia’s economic growth is largely dependent not only on the mining industry but in tourism as well. Australian tourism has improved a lot mainly because of transportation to and from each state has been greatly developed. This would include airport transfers Gold Coast, Sydney and even Melbourne where a lot of tourists go to visit.

Political Impact on Human Trafficking

UN speaks about human trafficking

Political actions on human trafficking can only be effective if people in political leadership make deliberate efforts to; identify the primary factors that make certain people vulnerable to trafficking, mobilize finances to support the agenda, determine the magnitude and range of effects of human trafficking, identify strategic partners who will contribute in fighting against the vice and conduct awareness campaigns to enlighten people on how unsafe human trafficking is.

Political impact on human trafficking

Conformance with international law

Politics can significantly contribute to the fight against human trafficking if political leaders decide to comply with international law (treaties and conventions) by signing, ratifying and enforcing international agreements.

Some of the international agreements that are concerned with human trafficking are; UN Convention for the Prevention, Suppression and Punishment of Human Trafficking and UN Protocol against Smuggling of Migrants via Land, Air or Sea.

Complying with international law will make governments legally obliged to protect victims, penalize traffickers and give victims residence within their borders either temporarily or permanently.

Raise awareness

Executive and legislative arms of governments should inform citizens about human trafficking and closely work with them to eradicate the menace.

Strengthen prevention mechanisms

There is need to warn vulnerable groups about the dangers of human trafficking.

Politicians should find ways of alleviating factors that make their voters vulnerable to trafficking. This can be achieved by reducing poverty levels, creating employment opportunities and fostering equitable distribution of resources.

Protect and support victims

Political leaders should ensure that victims of human trafficking who seek refuge at conflict zones and refugee camps are provided with good housing, material and psychological assistance, counseling and medical services.

Enhance law enforcement

Executive and legislative arms of governments should improve law enforcement measures by; strengthening information exchange among law enforcement agencies concerning international trafficking routes and profiles of notorious human traffickers with the ultimate objective of dismantling such criminal groups and networks.

Enrich knowledge

Political leaders ought to educate citizens on the nature and scope of human trafficking by facilitating collection and analysis of data, having joint research initiatives and creating evidence-based reports on global trafficking trends.

Strengthen partnerships

The fight against human trafficking can only bear fruits if executive and legislative arms of governments build up thematic and regional networks involving stakeholders such as; civil society, private sector and inter-governmental organizations.

Create special purpose funds

Relevant arms of government ought to collect and leverage financial resources into financing projects within their boundaries and across the world with the objective of eliminating the practice that grossly violates human rights.

Create formal contact groups

The main agenda of such groups should be to enable member states own the whole process, which will effectively encourage them to create and maintain long-term momentum.

Cooperative mechanisms

Political leaders should establish contacts at varying levels to facilitate cutting of red tape and also to make quick action against the vice possible.

Fight against corruption

There is need to strengthen the fight against corruption among border officials and police officers. These are people who are notorious for facilitating human trafficking by taking bribes from human traffickers at border points.

Overhauling systems

There is need for leaders in all government arms (executive, judiciary and legislature) to restructure all the major divisions of their criminal justice systems which employ people who’re often involved in aiding and abetting crimes involving human trafficking, such as the police, judicial officers and public prosecutors. Australian Companies “Backward” on Digital Lead Generation

Small time companies and stores seem to find the secret to success in terms of outranking its competitors. For instance, a small fashion shop in Mudgee is able to rank higher for search terms like “cocktail dresses” and “party dresses” than the fashion retail behemoths Myer and David Jones. How is it that a small producer can rank higher than Myer and David Jones for linen sheets or even boxer shorts?

The answer to this question can be found through the process of lead generation especially the ones practiced in the digital industry. With that being said, Australian companies seemed “Backward” on Digital Lead Generation making the less noticeable and popular businesses stand out amongst the sea of crowd.

Large retail corporations, like so many Australian companies, have failed to truly believe in the lead generation possibilities of the digital space. They don’t seem to think highly of it and don’t have any interest to discover and learn about its full potential. For that a matter, those who brave and faced this new venture was able to find a good measure of success and reap its benefits in the process.

It is important for companies especially the ones found over the internet to generate new leads on a regular basis. The reason behind this is that such leads can be used to generate consumer interest or inquiry into products or services of a business. This is essential as such data can be used for purposes such as list building, e-newsletter list acquisition or for sales leads. This is where small time online businesses are able to make contacts with online users which may lead to a potential sale or other favourable outcome.

For instance, online textile companies take note of their customer’s preference and taste and use such information for their next purchase. Linen sheets may become one of the items of their liking. Those who make good use of digital lead generation will be able to see ads associated to that particular product which helps make the overall searching process seamless, and natural as well as less intrusive to its users.

Leads usually contain the contact information or in some cases, demographic information of a customer who is interested in a specific product or service. Old time companies who have already established their service throughout the years may feel reluctant when new technologies are introduced to their business practices. This makes it harder for them to integrate such feature losing a considerable amount of customer interest as well as revenue over the course of time. The risk takers however, are able to capitalize on the huge success of digital lead generation.

Make sure that your business is up to date with the latest innovation and technologies found today. It is good to hear that such service can be easily found the internet today. Definitely check out digital lead generation and learn more about its benefits as well as what it can directly do to your business.c

Can Social Media Help Politicians Win Elections?

Social media is a booming industry and a huge number of companies and business owners are making good use of its services on their respective brands. These individuals however, are not the only ones who have benefitted greatly from the reach and popularity of the social media. Politicians today take the necessary efforts in improving their overall online presence attracting the attention of the online community. Can social media help politicians win elections? Is a popular question that often comes to mind especially since election campaigns are slowly starting to resurface.

The answer to that question is a definite yes. In fact, several politicians already found success with the help of social media. One of  the most notable examples is President Barack Obama who used social media in an effective manner winning U.S. presidential elections in 2008 and 2012. Aside from that, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is popular in the online community. The UK’s Financial Times even called him “India’s first social media prime minister” which result to a landslide and unanimous win.

Social media in politics is indeed a worthy endeavor. Mr. Modi as mentioned earlier, is among the five most followed politicians on Twitter with 14 million followers and still growing. Others in the top-five club are US President Barack Obama and Pope Francis.

Now social media is being used like never before particularly in a U.K. election. This is quite apparent with the rapid growth and increase of the U.K. population now uses social media more than even. In fact, many even coined 2015 to be UK’s first social media election in which parties are placing paid-for political adverts and campaign videos on social media to attract a potential audience of millions.

The social media and its millions of users are indeed a very good thriving ground to test one’s popularity and overall online presence. Furthermore, a huge number of online users now prefer social media over TV, print interviews or press conferences. The reason behind this is that the online community feels more engaged with the social media pages that they are following. Politicians can also use this to communicate directly to their fans through direct replies and instant messaging.

Social media is also able to reach a much larger number of individuals especially with the help of the internet. This in turn, makes it easy to gain fans across the different countries. Looking back at Mr. Modi, he often tweets in selected different languages depending on his travel itinerary.

Social media does indeed help politicians win elections and a number of politicians have already found success in this particular campaign. Millions of online users make use of social media services on a regular day to day basis making it feel almost natural to follow a popular brand, company or even a politician on their respective social media pages. This allows them to be updated about what they are doing. Make good use of social media towards your next political campaign today.
